RFID RTS at Tour Down Under
ULTRA was used for the first time at the 2012 BUPA Challenge Ride yesterday at Tanunda (South Australia) with over 7000 bike riders taking on Stage 4 of the Tour Down Under prior to the worlds best cyclists finishing the 130km stage in the afternoon. With 4 separate start lines, two finish lines and three mid way splits, the ULTRA System provided reatime tracking of the cyclists for organisers and emergency services. The disposable UHF tags meant no backlogs with recovering transponders and the low profile ULTRAMAT ensured near 100% read rates and safety for the fast finishing road bikes. The highlight was 66 year old Tour de France legend Eddy Merckx (pictured) starting and then riding the shorter 33km ride in front of 600 fellow riders.
