Two different jobs share this page. Backup timing during a race is a screen of its own on the phone. One time read off a watch afterwards is a single entry, from the results screen.
It fills a gap and nothing more. Where the chip was read, the chip's time stands. The box stamped that to the millisecond and a person did not, so a typed time never displaces one.
Backup timing, in Podium Mobile
This is for somebody standing at a line putting numbers in as they cross, usually with a stylus. It is its own screen so whoever is doing it cannot reach the boxes by accident.

By handon the bottom row. - Choose the race and the point they are crossing, and set a PIN.

Start taking times, then hand the phone over.
On the taking screen there is a clock showing the time of day to a tenth, a keypad, and a TAKE key. Put in the number and press TAKE. The moment you press TAKE is the time, and the screen clears itself ready for the next one.
The last five stay on screen. Undo the last one takes back the most recent, and any of the five can be removed by name — a number misread off a vest is usually noticed one or two later.
The way out is the PIN. Back does nothing, and the phone is asked to stay on this screen. That is deliberate: it is handed to somebody who has never opened this app before.
If everybody forgets the PIN, hold Finish down for ten seconds and it lets you out without one. Nothing behind that lock is worth stranding somebody at a race for. Every time is saved the moment it is taken, so a forgotten PIN, a flat battery or a closed app costs you the screen and nothing else.
One time afterwards, in Podium Mobile
Cycle to the Result screen, choose the race, then press Hand times. That lists everything taken and offers Add one, where the time can be typed rather than taken from the press. This is the watch-and-clipboard case, where the moment has long passed.
In Podium PC
By hand: missed times and clocks in the scoring box. Same three things: the number, the point, and the time.
What it needs
- A race chosen first. A number is only unique inside one race. An event hands 101 to somebody in every race it runs.
- The point name spelled as it is on the box card. A name that does not match scores nobody.
- A time after the gun. Anything before it is ignored.
Getting one wrong
Remove it. On the taking screen: Undo the last one, or Remove beside any of the last five. Afterwards: Hand times on the results screen. Podium PC: select it and press Remove. That person goes back to whatever their chip said, which may be nothing.
Where it goes
Onto the results, marked by hand on the line, and up to the timing server with everything else. For somebody who ran without a chip it is the only record that they finished, so let it send before you pack up.
